dc.descriptionThe article describes and analyzes the personal, academic, and professional life of Sergio Yulis, pioneer of the behavioral tradition in Chile, in order to understand the past and present of this approach and to disseminate Yulis’ legacy in Chilean psychology. A thorough review was conducted of his articles, publications about him, and interviews with his relatives, colleagues, and friends. The events are analyzed in the light of the military dictatorship in Chile (1973-1990) which had an impact not only in political and social areas, but also in academia, as was the case in the weakening of the behavioral approach during this period. Sergio Yulis’ main contributions were his purely scientific approach to psychology, his rigorous work as teacher, mentor, professional, and researcher, and his ability to translate research findings into clinically relevant tools.en-US
dc.descriptionSe describen y analizan detalles de la vida personal, académica y profesional de Sergio Yulis, precursor del enfoque conductual en Chile, con el objetivo de comprender el pasado y presente de dicha aproximación y dar a conocer su legado a la psicología chilena. Se realizó una revisión exhaustiva de sus artículos, publicaciones acerca de él y entrevistas para conocer la opinión de sus familiares, colegas y amigos. Los hechos son analizados a la luz de los acontecimientos ocurridos durante el período de la dictadura militar chilena (1973-1990), cuyo impacto en el mundo político y social se vio también reflejado en el ámbito académico y, en particular, en el debilitamiento progresivo del enfoque conductual en Chile. Los principales aportes de Sergio Yulis fueron su estilo de abordar el conocimiento en psicología desde un prisma estrictamente científico, su rigurosidad como docente, mentor, profesional e investigador y su capacidad de traducir los hallazgos de la investigación en hechos clínicamente relevantes.es-ES
