Abstract
The relationship between students' meta-comprehensive knowledge leve] and the social setting in the classroom is the main objective of this research work. Two questionnaires were administcred to a group of cighth-grade studcnts in the V Region, Chile. Initial results showed that these two variables were independent and had no correlation. A deeper analysis considering subdimensions revealed important correlations among gome of them. This resulted in very rich reflections about potential relations between affect and metacognition, It was revealed that the dimensions of classroom social setting that are relate,d to metacognition referred to difficulty and academic competence. It was concluded that the emotional aspect is not a context-free variable but is part of the classroorn context.
