| dc.description | During the XIX-th century, Chile made serious institutional efforts to developing Statistics as well as to use it as a diagnostic tool of the state of society. This paper shows how these efforts correspond to a Chilean official reception of Statistics as the science of a civilized and modern nation. Using some Sarmiento’s works, it is also described the conception about modernity, which was also coherent with the conception of Statistics. | en-US |
