Syntactic features of headlines and notes on baseball in electronic versions of Mexican newspapers

dc.descriptionIn this paper, we examine the most relevant syntactic features that characterize a corpus consisting of fifty baseball headlines and their relationship with the rest of the article. In this study, we wish to compare and contrast syntactic characteristics between the baseball headlines and the articles. First, we identified the syntactic features in the headlines, more specifically the type of construction and its configuration. After that, we examined the articles identifying anaphors and verbal tenses and moods. The most important feature we found is that the main referent, which is presented in the headline in the form of brief noun phrases, is reconsidered very regularly throughout the article through a diversity of noun phrases of different lengths. Moreover, although verbal moods and tenses of the headlines do not coincide with those of the baseball article, there is perfect cohesion and coherence in the journalistic text as a whole.en-US
dc.descriptionEl objetivo del presente artículo consiste en identificar los rasgos sintácticos más relevantes de un corpus de cincuenta titulares beisboleros y sus respectivas notas periodísticas. Lo anterior con la finalidad de contrastar dichos rasgos entre titulares y notas. Para ello, primero determinamos los rasgos sintácticos de los titulares, más concretamente el tipo de construcción y su configuración. Enseguida, examinamos las notas periodísticas identificando anáforas, tiempos y modos verbales. Finalmente, contrastamos los rasgos identificados en titulares y notas. Entre lo más relevante encontramos que el referente principal, presentado en el titular mediante sintagmas nominales breves y concretos, es retomado a lo largo de la nota a través de una diversidad de sintagmas nominales de diferente longitud. Asimismo, si bien el tiempo y modo verbales en el titular no concuerdan con aquéllos en los que se redacta principalmente la nota beisbolera, encontramos cohesión y coherencia adecuadas del texto periodístico como un todo.es-ES
