In the following lines there is a brief history of the Mercy Hospital, Insane or also called Mindless; located in “Santiago del Cercado” neighborhood, in the middle of the historical center. Lima, an old colonial city, housed hospitals that did not have a real disposition to treat the sick and even less the insane ones, who were interned there and forgotten by their relatives. This problem caused that with the development of medical science, the doctors started to worry about these patients, raising their voices of protest and making society in general cared for them, therefore, a worthy place that would be able to show the scientific advances of that time was created.En las siguientes líneas se hace una breve historia del Hospital de la Misericordia, Insanos o denominado por la población limeña como Amentes, ubicado en el Barrio del Cercado, en pleno centro histórico de Lima, una vieja ciudad colonial que albergó hospitales que no tuvieron una verdadera disposición para tratar a los enfermos y menos aún a los locos, quienes eran depositados allí y olvidados por sus parientes. Este problema ocasionó que, con el desarrollo de la ciencia médica, los galenos se preocuparan por estos pacientes, levantando la voz de protesta y logrando que la sociedad en general se interesara por ellos, para lo que se crearía un local digno acorde con los adelantos científicos de aquel entonces.
