From its beginnings, the modernization process in Argentina was based on the exclusionary disjunction articulated around the main antinomy civilization or barbarism. Towards the end of the 20th century, this founding antinomy becomes diluted in literary expression and it mutates into what Elsa Drucaroff in her Los prisioneros de la torre calls civilibarbarism. This change coincides in time with the post-modern rupturist negation of the bipolar logic of modernity (mind/body, and so on) and the transmodern idea of overcoming the binary reductive of the plural in the prefix trans- that describes current reality. In the present article we propose to analyze two argentinean stories – “El chico sucio” by Mariana Enriquez and “Ese zombie” by Alejandro Soifer– from the point of view of the old binomials. In both of them, the coexistence of temporal or spatial planes, the multichrony, puts in evidence both the circularity of barbarism in Argentine history, and its perfect coexistence with the civilizing process, and, in short, the absence of the antithetical founding relationship.Desde sus inicios, el proceso modernizador de Argentina se basó en la disyunción excluyente articulada en torno a la antinomia principal civilización o barbarie. Hacia finales del siglo xx, esta antinomia fundante se diluye en la expresión literaria y muta en lo que Elsa Drucaroff en su Los prisioneros de la torre denomina civilibarbarie. Este cambio coincide en el tiempo con la negación rupturista posmoderna de la lógica bipolar de la modernidad (mente / cuerpo, etc.) y la idea transmoderna de la superación de lo binario reductor de lo plural en el prefijo trans que describe la realidad actual. En el presente proponemos analizar dos relatos argentinos –“El chico sucio” de Mariana Enriquez y “Ese zombie” de Alejandro Soifer– desde el punto de vista de los viejos binomios. En ambos, la coexistencia de planos temporales o espaciales, la multicronía, ponen en evidencia tanto la circularidad de la barbarie en la historia argentina, como su perfecta convivencia con el proceso civilizatorio, y, en definitiva, la ausencia de la relación antitética fundante.
