Tourism Observatories (TO) operate in several countries, having their implementation recommended by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Despite its growing importance as a Destination Management Organization (DMO), TO have still been poorly studied and research that sought to understand their nature and the relationships they develop with tourist destinations is rare. To contribute to overcoming this gap, a model for the analysis of TO was proposed based on the Capital System (CS) and built from the study of 39 TO from 10 countries in Europe and Latin America. The research is exploratory-descriptive, used a mixed method in a convergent project that integrated qualitative and quantitative research and covered content analysis, interviews, application of questionnaires by e-mail and survey. As a result, it presents a model for analysis validated with 29 OT which identified the occurrence of configurations of TO and the relationships established by them with characteristics of the destinations in which they operate. In addition of contributing to a better theoretical understanding of the object, the model also demonstrated potential to become a viable tool to assist governments and professionals in the sector to manage OT or their networks.Los Observatorios Turísticos (OT) operan en varios países y tienen su implementación sugerida por la Organización Mundial del Turismo (UNWTO). Mismo con su creciente importancia como Destination Management Organization (DMO) todavía fueran poco estudiados. Son raras las investigaciones que intentaran comprender su naturaleza y las relaciones que ellos desarrollan con los destinos turísticos. Así esta investigación busca contribuir para la superación de eso al proponer un modelo de análisis de OT basado en el Sistema de Capitales (SC) y construido a partir del estudio de 39 OT ubicados en 10 países de Europa y América Latina. El estudio es exploratorio-descriptivo, utilizó el método mixto en un proyecto convergente que integró investigación cualitativa y cuantitativa con uso de análisis de contenido, entrevistas, aplicación de cuestionarios por correo electrónico y encuesta. Como resultado presenta un modelo de análisis validado con 29 OT con lo cual identificó la ocurrencia de configuraciones de OT y de relaciones desarrolladas con los destinos en que operan. Además de contribuir para su comprensión teórica, el modelo también demostró potencial para convertirse en una herramienta viable para ayudar gobiernos y profesionales del sector en la gestión de OT o de sus redes.
