| dc.description | The German language, spoken as a group language in the South of Chile by descendants of earlier 19th century German immigrants, is being replaced by Spanish among the younger generations of this Chilean German community. The study reports evidence of the grandchildren's main use of Spanish, in contrast with the use of German by their parents and grandparents, as shown in their permanent daily linguistic interaction with different addressees of the Spanish speaking community in the cities of Osorno, Purranque, Frutillar and Puerto Varas. | en-US |
| dc.description | El alemán, lengua de grupo hablada en el Sur de Chile, está siendo sustituido por el español en la interacción verbal diaria con diversos interlocutores, por las generaciones más jóvenes de la comunidad chilena de habla alemana, como resultado de la convivencia lingüística permanente con el español. Ello se comprueba en el uso mayoritario del español por parte del tramo generacional de los nietos en las ciudades de Osorno, Purranque, Frutillar y Puerto Varas, en relación al uso del alemán de los padres y de los abuelos.
