The purpose of the author -as suggested by the title of the article­is to discuss the concept of structure as a basic one in structuralism. To achieve this, the author reviews a definition of the term and analyzes, through examples, the implications of such definition considering phonological, lexical, semantic, morphological, syntactic and graphemic aspects of the Spanish language. Finally, the author stresses the difference between system and structure, which are sometimes used as synonymsEl autor se propone -como lo indica el título de este trabajo- mostrar cómo entiende el lingüista el concepto de estructura, fundamento del estructuralismo lingüístico. Para esto, presenta primero una definición muy detallada de este término, y luego analiza, con numerosos ejemplos, cada uno de los contenidos de esta definición, considerando aspectos fonológicos, léxicos, semánticos, morfosintácticos y grafemáticos de la lengua española. Finalmente, señala la diferencia que hay -o que debería haber- entre estructura y sistema, términos que algunos emplean como sinónimos.
