The  following  article  deals  with  the  differences  between  Japanese  and Spanish text structure and the influence they have on the translation pro-cess. Samples of texts are compared and analyzed in terms of coherence, cohesion and thematic structure. This exercise will prove useful to identify and to exemplify the different trends between both languages and, we hope, it will contribute to improve the quality of translations.En el siguiente artículo se intenta explicar la influencia en el proceso de traducción que ejercen las diferentes estructuras textuales del japonés y el español, mediante la comparación y análisis de textos en términos de coherencia, cohesión y estructura temática. Dicho ejercicio servirá para identificar y ejemplificar distintas tendencias entre ambas lenguas, lo que esperamos contribuirá a mejorar la calidad de las traducciones.
