En este trabajo son utilizados los resultados de una evaluación cualitativa del Segundo Torneo de Debate Interescolar Metropolitano (TIMD), organizado por la Sociedad de Debate de la Universidad Diego Portales y el Ministerio de Educación en el año 2003. El objetivo principal, considerando la información contenida en esta evaluación, es articular críticamente la “narrativa” realizada por los jóvenes estudiantes de enseñanza secundaria que participaron en esta experiencia, reflexionando en cómo la subjetividad juvenil muestra la emergencia de un nuevo y complejo contenido ciudadano. Esta reflexión podría ser muy útil en una sociedad (como la chilena) que peligrosamente debilitó el significado público de la práctica de debate, principalmente porque las instituciones educacionales debilitaron la práctica de debate público como expresión de ciudadanía. Abstract: In this paper the results are taken into account of the qualitative evaluation of the Second Metropolitan Interscholastic Debate Tournament (TIMD), organized by the Debating Society of the University Diego Portales and the Ministry of Education in 2003. The main goal –considering the information contained in this evaluation– is to critically articulate the “narrative” offered by the young high school students who participated in this experience, reflecting on how the youth subjectivity in this participation space (offered by the school system) shows the emergence of new content and complex guidelines of citizenship. This reflection could be very useful in a society (like Chile) that has dangerously weakened the public signification of the debating practice, mainly because the educational institutions themselves have weakened the public signification of debate as a practice of citizenship.
