| dc.description | In the context of contrasting intellectual and manual work, we developed research to compare the turnover intentions from the organization among Human Resource Management (HRM) teachers and building construction workers. We applied the Behavioral Intentions to Stay in the Organization Scale (BISOS) and a sociodemographic form in 154 workers in Belo Horizonte, 77 teachers and 77 construction workers. We also applied semi-structured interviews to a small number of participants, exploring the participants’ arguments about these intentions. Among the teachers, there was a predominance of the intention to leave, whilst among the construction workers, the intention to stay. The difference between the distributions was statistically significant. We identified, however, a fragility of bonds with the organization for both occupational groups. On the one hand, the turnover intentions and the justifying arguments in their similarities and differences did not corroborate the expected polarization between intellectual and manual work. On the other hand, we can understand them as simultaneously reflecting the country’s current economic scenario and the educational profile of the two groups, in which construction workers have fewer options for reinsertion into the market, while teachers’ training enables other insertions into the market and/or having more than one job. | en-US |
| dc.description | En el contexto de la oposición entre las actividades intelectuales y manuales, desarrollamos una investigación para comparar la intención de permanecer/abandonar la organización entre los profesores de Gestión de Recursos Humanos (GRH) y los obreros de la construcción. Aplicamos la Escala de Intenciones Conductuales de Permanencia en la Organización (EICPO) y un formulario sociodemográfico en 154 trabajadores de Belo Horizonte, siendo 77 profesores y 77 obreros. Aplicamos también entrevistas semiestructuradas a un pequeño número de participantes, explorando los argumentos de los participantes sobre dichas intenciones. Entre los profesores predominó la intención para abandonar, mientras que entre los obreros, la intención para permanecer. La diferencia entre las distribuciones fue estadísticamente significativa. Identificamos, sin embargo, una fragilidad de los vínculos con la organización para ambos grupos ocupacionales. Por un lado, las intenciones de permanecer/abandonar y los argumentos justificativos en sus similitudes y diferencias no corroboraron la esperada polarización entre el trabajo intelectual y el manual. Por otro, podemos entenderlas como un reflejo simultáneo del escenario económico actual del país y del perfil formativo de los dos colectivos, en el que los obreros tienen menos opciones de reinserción en el mercado, mientras que la formación de los profesores permite otras inserciones en el mercado y/o tener más de un empleo. | es-ES |
