| dc.description | El siguiente artículo versa sobre la reforma de la música sacra en la Iglesia Católica chilena y su relación con el contexto socio-cultural entre los años 1885 y 1940. El objetivo es explicar los procesos que contribuyeron a su gestación y desarrollo, así como sus implicancias en la vida musical en el Chile de la época.
A través de este movimiento, la Iglesia Católica buscó purificar la música de los templos eliminando los géneros considerados profanos, como la ópera italiana, por medio de la implementación de severas reglas vigiladas por grupos especialmente establecidos para este fin. La revisión de algunas composiciones sugiere que sus consecuencias desde el punto de vista estrictamente compositivo fueron escasas. Sin embargo, su impacto fue mayor en la constitución del movimiento de música docta chileno en el siglo XX, la recuperación del pasado musical y, sobre todo, la afirmación de la identidad de la Iglesia Católica en un periodo de creciente secularización. | es-ES |
| dc.description | In this article I will discuss the reform of sacred music in Chilean Catholic Church, in relation to socio-cultural context from 1885 to 1940. The aim is to explain the processes that contributed, on the one hand, to the emergence and development of this reform, and on the other hand, the implication for musical life in Chile.
Through this movement, the Catholic Church sought to purify the music of the temples. In that sense, the Church abolished the genera considered profane, including Italian Opera, throughout the implementation of severe rules, for those purposes specialized groups were created. The review of some compositions suggests that the consequences -from the standpoint of composition- were strictly limited. Nevertheless, this caused a great impact in the incorporation of Chilean academic music movement in the Twentieth Century, the recovery of the musical past and, above all, the affirmation of the Catholic Church identity in a period in which secularization was increasing. | en-US |
