I propose to address the representations of women in Mario Levrero’s work. From the analysis of the Trilogía involuntaria –La ciudad (1970), El lugar (1981) and París (1979)– in dialogue with other texts, I emphasize that the female characters are constructed as two-faced monsters: while they promote the reconstructive search for the protagonist of the stories, they are also an obstacle for this fulfillment. I argue that Levrero configures his female characters taking as a model the archetype of the Jungian anima that brings together both the image of the mother and that of the witch. The woman, constituted as an object of desire, is an elusive phantom that when reached assumes the form of its negative and becomes antiorgasmic, which also accounts for his particular conception of writing as a therapeutic device and (im)possible project.Proponemos abordar las figuraciones de la mujer en la obra de Mario Levrero. A partir del análisis de la trilogía involuntaria –La ciudad (1970), El lugar (1981) y París (1979)– en diálogo con otros textos, destacamos que los personajes femeninos se construyen como monstruos bifrontes: al mismo tiempo que impulsan la búsqueda reconstructiva del protagonista de los relatos, son un obstáculo para dicha realización. Sostenemos que Levrero configura sus personajes femeninos tomando como modelo el arquetipo del ánima junguiana que reúne la semblanza de la madre y la de la bruja. La mujer, constituida como objeto de deseo, es un fantasma inaprensible que al ser alcanzado asume la forma de su negativo y deviene antiorgásmico, lo que da cuenta, además, de su particular concepción de la escritura como dispositivo terapéutico y proyecto (im)posible.
