This paper describes the life of Arturo Alessandri Rodríguez as a jurist. It begins with a biographical sketch that allows us to situate the time during which he lived and the main milestones of his personal history. It then explains the contribution of Alessandri's academic work in the configuration of a new stage in the doctrinal development of civil law, separating his publishings and university management. However, his work also extended to the forensic field as part of a law firm that exists to this day, so it is also appropriate to refer to some aspects of his professional practice and the professional interest he showed during his more than 50 years as a lawyer.El presente trabajo expone la vida de Arturo Alessandri Rodríguez mirado como un jurista. Comienza con un esbozo biográfico que permite situar el tiempo durante el cual vivió y los principales hitos de su historia personal. Después se explica la contribución que supuso el trabajo académico de Alessandri en la configuración de una nueva etapa en el desarrollo dogmático del derecho civil, separando sus publicaciones y gestión universitaria. Sin embargo, su quehacer se extendió también al ámbito forense como parte de un despacho que existe hasta hoy, de manera que corresponde referir también algunos aspectos de su ejercicio profesional y el interés gremial que demostró durante sus más de 50 años como abogado.
