Are the interdental segments [n̪], [l̪] and [t̪] valid as phonemes in the phonological system of the Mapuche language, in southern Chile?

| dc.description | This article reports results of a research on the interdental segments [t̪], [n̪], [1̪] in correlation with the alveolar phonemes /t/, /n/, /1/ of the phonological system of the Mapuche language spoken in Toltén and San José de la Mariquina, coastal areas of La Araucanía and Los Ríos, Chile. The corpus has been constituted on the basis of 19 surveys of one hundred and sixteen lexical items each, which have been transcribed according to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IFA). The phonological analysis of the segments has been carried out on the basis of the distributional method, complemented with the observation of the phonic perception of the speakers themselves from the areas under study. The results allow us to conclude that, in the southern zone of the coastal sector, said segments are in force; although their consistency in terms of phonological function in relation to its alveolar counterparts are affected. | en-US |
| dc.description | El siguiente artículo presenta los resultados de la investigación sobre los segmentos interdentales [t̪], [n̪], [1̪] en correlación con los fonemas alveolares /t/, /n/, /1/ del sistema fonológico de la lengua mapuche, realizada en las comunas de Toltén y San José de la Mariquina, zonas costeras de La Araucanía y de Los Ríos, Chile. El corpus se ha constituido sobre la base de 19 encuestas de ciento dieciséis ítemes léxicos cada una, las que han sido transcritas según el Alfabeto Fonético Internacional AFI. El análisis fonológico de los segmentos se ha realizado sobre la base del método distribucional, complementado con la observación de la percepción fónica de los propios hablantes de las áreas en estudio. Los resultados permiten concluir que, en la zona sur del sector costero, dichos segmentos están vigentes; aunque su consistencia en cuanto a su función fonológica en relación a sus contrapartes alveolares se encuentra afectada. | es-ES |
