dc.descriptionThis study, developed within the Project for the study of beliefs and attitudes towards Spanish varieties in the XXI century (PRECAVES XXI), shows the main results surrounding beliefs and attitudes that Chileans have towards their own speech variety. Applying the project’s methodology to a stratified sample of 108 participants, it is concluded that Chileans value positively their own variety, and even go as far as to consider it “the best” Spanish. Furthermore, data indicates that Chileans recognize their own variety exactly, even though, in parallel, there is a tendency to confound the Chilean variety with the one from the Canary Islands. On top of that, direct and indirect evaluations show that the participants in our sample have very positive attitudes towards their own speech variety, while it is possible to observe some sociolinguistic variation patterns in relation to sex, age, and the participant’s educational levels.en-US
dc.descriptionEn esta investigación, desarrollada en el marco del Proyecto para el estudio de las creencias y actitudes hacia las variedades del español en el siglo XXI (PRECAVES XXI), se exponen los principales resultados sobre las creencias y actitudes de los chilenos hacia su propia variedad de habla. Aplicando la metodología del proyecto a una muestra estratificada de 108 hablantes, se concluye que los chilenos valoran muy positivamente su propia variedad de habla, tanto así que la consideran como el “mejor español”. Sumado a esto, los datos indican que los chilenos reconocen de manera exacta su propia variedad lingüística, aunque existe, en paralelo, una tendencia a confundir el habla chilena con la canaria. Por su parte, la medición de las valoraciones directas e indirectas da cuenta de que los integrantes de la muestra tienen unas actitudes muy positivas hacia su propia variedad de habla a la vez que se pueden observar algunos patrones de variación sociolingüísticos en relación con los factores sexo, edad y nivel de estudios de los hablantes.es-ES
