This article examines the beliefs and attitudes of 108 Canarian speakers towards the Chilean linguistic variety. The research is framed in the second phase of the Project for the study of beliefs and attitudes towards Spanish varieties in the XXI century (PRECAVES XXI), with a uniform stratification of the sample in the variables gender, age and educational level. The results show a scarce recognition of the Chilean variety, as well as a tendency to confuse it with their own. The Canarians also show a high esteem for Chilean speech, both in the direct valuation of the voices and in the indirect valuation through the characteristics of the speakers, the country and the culture. There is, however, a greater valuation of qualities related to human and affective dimensions, as opposed to those linked to status and social advancement. Women, university educated people and secondgeneration speakers exhibit generally higher evaluations of the Chilean variety.En este artículo se estudian las creencias y actitudes de 108 hablantes canarios hacia la variedad lingüística chilena. La investigación se enmarca en la segunda fase del Proyecto para el estudio de las creencias y actitudes hacia las variedades del español en el siglo XXI (PRECAVES XXI), con una estratificación uniforme de la muestra en las variables sexo, edad y nivel de estudios. Los resultados evidencian un escaso reconocimiento de la modalidad chilena, así como una tendencia a confundirla con la variedad propia. Los canarios muestran, además, una alta estima por el habla chilena tanto en la valoración directa de las voces como en la indirecta a través de las características de los hablantes, del país y de la cultura. Se constata, no obstante, un mayor aprecio por las cualidades relativas a las dimensiones humanas y afectivas, frente a las vinculadas con el estatus y el avance social. Las mujeres, los universitarios y los hablantes de la segunda generación exhiben unas valoraciones generalmente más altas de la variedad chilena.
