dc.descriptionThis study, developed within the Project for the study of beliefs and attitudes towards Spanish varieties in the 21st century (PRECAVES XXI), shows the main results surrounding beliefs and attitudes that Majorcan people have towards the Chilean speech variety. Applying the project’s methodology to a stratified sample of 108 participants, it is concluded that the exact recognition of the variety is very low and that it is mostly confused with the Argentinian one. On the other hand, the measurement of the direct and indirect evaluations reveals that the informants show very positive attitudes towards the Chilean variety, showing even higher scores than when they evaluate their own dialect. Some patterns of sociolinguistic variation of interest are also observed in relation to the factors of sex, age and level of education. Due to its novelty in the work carried out to date in the framework of PRECAVES XXI, and also in the investigation of linguistic attitudes in general, it stands out that female voices are clearly better valued at all levels than male voices.en-US
dc.descriptionEn esta investigación, desarrollada en el marco del Proyecto para el estudio de las creencias y actitudes hacia las variedades del español en el siglo XXI (PRECAVES XXI), se exponen los principales resultados sobre las creencias y actitudes de los mallorquines hacia la variedad de habla chilena. Aplicando la metodología del proyecto a una muestra estratificada de 108 hablantes, se concluye que el grado de reconocimiento exacto de la variedad chilena por parte de los mallorquines es muy bajo y que esta es confundida, sobre todo, con la variedad argentina. Por otro lado, la medición de las valoraciones directas e indirectas da cuenta de que los informantes presentan unas actitudes muy positivas hacia la variedad chilena, mostrando, incluso, puntuaciones más altas que cuando evalúan la variedad propia. Se observan también algunos patrones de variación sociolingüística de interés en relación con los factores sexo, edad y nivel de instrucción. Por su novedad en los trabajos desarrollados hasta el momento en el marco de PRECAVES XXI, y en la investigación de las actitudes lingüísticas en general, destaca el hecho de que las voces femeninas sean claramente mejor valoradas en todos los niveles que las voces masculinas.es-ES
