This article presents a detailed summary of media and communications research on social movements in Chile during the 21st century. In recent decades, this field has received significant interest in areas that this study groups around the representation of causes, subjects, and the future of movements by the media; their performative character in urban space; the counter-informative and participatory/organisational role of social networks; and, finally, the ontological character of media and communication in contexts of demonstration and protest. After reviewing 70 works from academic articles, book chapters, and books, the paper provides a detailed look at the main paths that shape the field of communication and media studies on social movements and invites us to observe the gaps and challenges it presents for the coming years.El presente artículo presenta un pormenorizado resumen de la investigación que desde los medios y las comunicaciones se ha hecho sobre movimientos sociales en Chile durante el siglo XXI. En las últimas décadas, dicho campo ha recibido un gran interés en áreas que este estudio agrupa en torno a la representación de causas, sujetos y futuro de movimientos por parte de medios de comunicación; al carácter performativo en el espacio urbano; al rol contra informativo y participativo/organizacional de las redes sociales; y, finalmente, al carácter ontológico de lo medial y comunicacional en contextos de manifestación y protesta. Tras revisar 70 trabajos provenientes de artículos académicos, capítulos de libros y libros, el artículo brinda una pormenorizada mirada de los principales caminos que configuran el campo de los estudios en comunicación y medios sobre movimiento social, e invita a observar los vacíos y desafíos que presenta para los próximos años.
