The linguistic temporality, specially the verbal one, is one of the most controversial issues in Spanish language. This article, derived from a research conducted by Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and Universidad Industrial de Santander, aims to characterize the expression of anteriority at the moment of speech in the Colombian variety of Spanish. Based on an onomasiologic approach, beginning from an oral language corpus, the fragments where the expression of anteriority emerged at the moment of speech were pointed out. Then, the emptying in the matrix which classifies the typology of anteriority manifested in each one was made. Finally, the means employed to do that were determined. We came to the conclusion that, in the Colombian variety of Spanish, the verbal forms only express the anteriority in relation to the moment of speech, also that the most used verbal forms are preterit, copreterit and present perfect. Aditionally, the space between the moment of the speech and the event is recognized due to other elements, and the discursive situation is the mean that allows to determine largely that interval.La temporalidad lingüística, en especial la temporalidad verbal, es uno de los temas más controvertidos en los estudios de la lengua española. Por eso el objetivo de este artículo, derivado de una investigación desarrollada en la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia y la Universidad Industrial de Santander, es caracterizar la expresión de anterioridad al momento del habla en la variedad colombiana del español. Con un enfoque onomasiológico, se partió de un corpus de lengua oral, se señalaron los fragmentos en que se expresaba anterioridad al momento del habla y se efectuó el vaciado en una matriz diseñada para tal fin, en la cual se clasificó la tipología de anterioridad que se manifestaba en cada uno y se determinó qué medios se emplearon para ello. Se concluye que en la variedad colombiana del español las formas verbales expresan la anterioridad con relación al momento del habla principalmente con los tiempos verbales pretérito, copretérito y antepresente, que el intervalo entre el momento del habla y el evento es reconocido gracias a otros elementos y que la situación discursiva es el elemento que permite determinar en mayor medida ese intervalo.
