This article studies the trayectory of Germán Domínguez Gajardo within the cultural institutionality during the chilean civic-military dictatorship, specifically between 1973 and 1990. For this, delves into his biography and his work within different cultural entities, mainly through official and press documents of the period. It is thus proposed that Domínguez played a key role not only as a adviser in the dictatorship, being involved -and leading- some of its entities, but also thanks to his management and, in particular, to his proposal for cultural extension, that the cultural institutionality underwent a considerable change at that time.En este artículo se estudia el paso de Germán Domínguez Gajardo dentro de la institucionalidad cultural durante la dictadura cívico-militar chilena, específicamente entre 1973 y 1990. Para esto se ahonda en su biografía y su quehacer dentro de distintas entidades culturales, principalmente a través de documentos oficiales y de prensa del período. Se propone así que Domínguez desempeñó un papel clave no solo como un engranaje de la dictadura, al estar involucrado –y encabezar– algunas de sus entidades, sino que también fue gracias a su gestión y, en particular, a su propuesta de extensión cultural, que la institucionalidad cultural sufrió un cambio considerable por aquel entonces.
