dc.descriptionThis article aims to contribute to a Latin American genealogy of the strategy of inserting manuscripts and drawings in notebooks, books, and other reproductive media as a way of aesthetically processing moments of cultural crisis. In the series we study, the manuscript strategy offers a way of projecting solutions through utopian figurations stricto sensu. We will explore some aspects of the vision of Uruguayan artist Joaquín Torres García (1874-1949) and its resonances in Chilean architect Alberto Cruz Covarrubias (1917-2013). Both polymaths resorted to the letter and the image as appropriate expanded dimensions of thinking, living and doing that culminate in the figuration of cities as a cultural axis. The thesis of the article is that this modernist strategy offers today, in its contemporary configurations, a way to rethink and reacquire agency in the face of the complexity of the global environmental crisis through these types of practices.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo pretende contribuir a una genealogía latinoamericana de la estrategia de insertar manuscritos y dibujos en cuadernos, libros y otros soportes reproductivos como forma de procesar estéticamente momentos de crisis cultural. En las series que estudiamos, la estrategia del manuscrito ofrece una forma de proyectar soluciones a través de figuraciones utópicas stricto sensu. Exploraremos algunos aspectos de la visión del artista uruguayo Joaquín Torres García (1874-1949) y sus resonancias en el arquitecto chileno Alberto Cruz Covarrubias (1917-2013). Ambos polímatas recurrieron a la letra y a la imagen como dimensiones expandidas, apropiadas del pensar, vivir y hacer, que culminan en la figuración de las ciudades como eje cultural. La tesis del artículo es que esta estrategia modernista ofrece hoy, en sus configuraciones contemporáneas, una forma de repensar y readquirir agencia ante la complejidad de la crisis ambiental global a través de este tipo de prácticas.  es-ES
