This narrative review aims to synthesize relevant information about artificial intelligence, its origins and its applications in university teaching, with special emphasis on the field of health. Its potential is highlighted as a tool that strengthens the teaching and learning processes, providing support to both teachers and students in academic, clinical, research and innovation tasks. Likewise, the need to establish ethical frameworks that guide its responsible use is highlighted, preserving critical thinking and clinical reasoning, fundamental pillars in professional practice.Esta revisión narrativa tiene como propósito sintetizar información relevante sobre la inteligencia artificial, sus orígenes y sus aplicaciones en la docencia universitaria, con especial énfasis en el ámbito de la salud. Se resalta su potencial como herramienta que fortalece los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje, brindando apoyo tanto a docentes como a estudiantes en tareas académicas, clínicas, investigativas y de innovación. Asimismo, se subraya la necesidad de establecer marcos éticos que orienten su uso responsable, preservando el pensamiento crítico y el razonamiento clínico, pilares fundamentales en el ejercicio profesional.
