The use of simple or indefinite non-perfect past and perfect past continually causes problems affecting those who want to or must learn Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL). Because of this, it is necessary to address the differences in aspect and tense that distinguish this opposition in order to facilitate the teaching as well as the logical understanding of this past verb tenses by means of visual images. To this end, the linguistic phenomena of interest will be analysed from the standpoint of cognitive grammar, demonstrating that the perspective of non-imperfect is used to refer to the unfinished state of a process or an event and the moment parallel to a point in time previous to the one of the speech. In contrast, the perspective of indefinite points at the end of a process or event and to the moment parallel to the final moment that takes place before the enunciation. This epistemic-tense and aspectual distinction between non-perfect and indefinite will be achieved through images that facilitates the teaching of the said opposition, designed for explanatory and didactic purposes.en-US
