| dc.description | From the beginning of the 20th century, the claim that humanities are in crisis has become common. This article reviews the main arguments that have since been made to defend the essential role of humanities in education. Likewise, there is need to critically examine the current state of these studies and rethink their contents and how they are deployed to face the challenges of the 21st century. | dc.description | Desde principios del siglo XX, la afirmación de que las humanidades se encuentran en crisis se ha convertido en una frase reiterativa. En el artículo se revisan los principales argumentos que, desde entonces, se han elaborado para defender el lugar esencial de las humanidades en la educación. Igualmente, se plantea la necesidad de examinar críticamente el estado actual de estos estudios y de repensar sus contenidos, así como la forma en la que se despliegan de cara a los desafíos del siglo XXI.
