In the light of texts written by the philosopher José Ortega y Gasset —in particular, of his essay “The two great metaphors”— this work investigates the mutual relationship between the ideas of metaphor and philosophy. Ortega’s thesis that “metaphor is a truth, a knowledge of realities” motivates both methodological considerations and an elaboration of the notion of metaphorical truth, all this in dialogue with pertinent contemporary developments. According to the underlying approach, while philosophical discourse allows us to characterize and assess an interesting cognitive use of metaphor, the latter makes us realize that, finally, philosophy depends much more radically on perspectives, embodied in certain types of metaphors, that on particular beliefs or even groups of beliefs.A la luz de textos del filósofo José Ortega y Gasset —en particular, de su ensayo “Las dos grandes metáforas”—, se indaga aquí en la mutua relación entre las ideas de metáfora y filosofía. La tesis ortegueana de que “la metáfora es una verdad, es un conocimiento de realidades” motiva tanto consideraciones metodológicas como una elaboración de la noción de verdad metafórica, todo esto en diálogo con desarrollos contemporáneos pertinentes. Según el planteamiento de fondo, mientras que el discurso filosófico nos permite caracterizar y valorar un interesante uso cognoscitivo de la metáfora, esta última nos hace darnos cuenta de que, finalmente, la filosofía depende mucho más radicalmente de perspectivas, encarnadas en cierto tipo de metáforas, que de creencias particulares o hasta grupos de creencias.
