In the present paper, we analyze the festive events of the Castilian nobility in the Lower Middle Ages through its sensory universe. During those celebrations, their assistants not only saw his surroundings but heard, smelled, touched, and savored them. Their senses were involved in the construction of a courtly festive model. This proposal is part of the so-called “sensory turn” of the social sciences that has occurred in recent decades. David Howes called it “a cultural approach to the study of the senses as well as a sensory approach to the study of culture” (Howes, 2014). Consequently, the objective of our analysis is to explore the sensory environment of the Castilian courtly festivities of the fifteen through the study of the chronicle of The Countess Michael Lucas of Iranzo.Abordaremos los eventos festivos de la nobleza castellana en la Baja Edad Media a través de su universo sensorial. Durante las celebraciones castellanas bajomedievales, sus asistentes no solo vieron su entorno sino que lo oyeron, olieron, tocaron y saborearon, por lo que sus sentidos participaron de la construcción de un modelo festivo cortesano. Esta propuesta se inscribe en el denominado “giro sensorial” de las ciencias sociales acaecido en las últimas décadas y denominado por David Howes como “una aproximación cultural al estudio de los sentidos al igual que una aproximación sensorial sobre el estudio de la cultura” (Howes, 2014). En consecuencia, el objetivo de nuestro análisis será explorar el entorno sensorial de las fiestas cortesanas castellanas del siglo XV, por medio del análisis de la crónica del Condestable Miguel Lucas de Iranzo.
