This paper aims to analyze the available cartography during the establishment of viticulture in the Elqui valley (second half of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century). Colonial cartography of the general captaincy of Chile is examined, in addition to a civil trial over a property that contains a map of the Elqui Valley from 1810. In this way, unpublished sources are presented that have been useful to understand and explain the development of viticulture in the Elqui Valley. This work demonstrates a characteristic agrarian landscape, which supplied the regional economy, made evident in the analyzed cartography, and also its identity elements and their relationships. The hypothesis affirms that viticulture in the Elqui Valley in this period was defined by a convergence of environmental and cultural factors. The results of this research shows the value of the use of colonial cartography in the study of the history and development of agriculture and regional economy.Analizaremos la cartografía disponible durante el establecimiento de la vitivinicultura del valle de Elqui, de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII e inicios del siglo XIX. Para ello, se examina la cartografía colonial de la capitanía general de Chile, además de un juicio de propiedad que contiene un mapa de valle de Elqui de 1810. Presentamos fuentes inéditas, sumamente útiles para comprender y explicar el desarrollo de la viticultura en el valle de Elqui. Este trabajo da cuenta de un paisaje agrario característico que abastecía a la economía regional y que se evidencia en la cartografía, además de sus elementos identitarios y sus relaciones. La hipótesis afirma que la viticultura en el valle de Elqui en este periodo estuvo definida por elementos que convergen tanto ambiental como culturalmente. Los resultados de esta investigación demuestran el valor de la utilización de la cartografía colonial en el estudio de la historia y desarrollo de la agricultura y la economía regional.
