This article is based upon the detection, description and analysis of pragmatic discourse markers used in the speech of cultivated speakers of Spanish in Santiago. Samples of spontaneous and semi-spontaneous speech corresponding to cultivated men and women belonging to three different age groups were investigated. The most frequent discourse markers were studied, described and analyzed in different settings of use.Este trabajo está basado en la detección, descripción y análisis de los marca-dores pragmáticos de apoyo usados en el discurso oral de los hablantes cultos del español de Santiago de Chile. Para su estudio, se investigaron muestras de habla espontánea y semiespontánea en sujetos masculinos y femeninos cultos, correspondientes a tres distintos grupos etarios. Se estudian los mar-cadores más frecuentes y se describen las funciones que cumplen en sus distintas modalidades de uso.
