| dc.description | This article consists of a research oriented to know the social production of old masculinities in Uruguay. This study was carried out in the Department of Salto, with a qualitative methodology, based on ten interviews with older men who were predisposed to share their experiences of being a man in old age. According to the reported narratives, older men emphasize the hierarchy of their biological condition over their female pair, from the body marks that endow it with certain characteristics of their gender. | dc.description | El presente artículo consiste en una investigación orientada a conocer la producción social de las masculinidades viejas en Uruguay. Este estudio se llevó a cabo en el Departamento de Salto, con una metodología de corte cualitativo, a partir de diez entrevistas realizadas a varones mayores que se predispusieron a compartir sus experiencias de ser varón en la vejez. De acuerdo con las narrativas relevadas, los varones mayores resaltan la jerarquización de su condición biológica por sobre su par femenino, a partir de las marcas corporales que lo dotan de ciertas características propias de su género. Por su parte, entienden al trabajo como un organizador social fundante de su vida, forjando su identidad a edades tempranas. Finalmente, estos varones alojan en la familia su principal soporte afectivo, quedando la mujer ubicada en un lugar instrumental a costa de los intereses de la autodefinición masculina. | es-ES |
