dc.descriptionThis study presents the main results on beliefs and attitudes of a stratified sample of 144 informants from Barcelona towards the Chilean variety. Based on the methodology of the Project for the study of beliefs and attitudes towards Spanish varieties in the XXI century (PRECAVES XXI), the results review whether the existence of a “better Spanish” is still valid. Then, it examines the degree of identification of the different varieties of Spanish by participants from Barcelona and, finally, a set of questions, grouped into direct evaluations (cognitive and affective) and indirect evaluations (sociocultural features of the speaker, the country and its culture), are examined to observe attitudes and beliefs towards the Chilean variety. In general, the ratings are positive and, for social factors (gender, age, level of education and L1) and extralinguistic factors (male or female voice) that may explain the differences between groups, the participant’s L1 (Spanish or Catalan), as well as the voice heard (a male or a female voice) should be noted.en-US
dc.descriptionEn el presente estudio se desglosan los principales resultados en torno a las creencias y las actitudes de una muestra estratificada de 144 informantes barceloneses hacia la variedad chilena. A partir de la metodología del Proyecto para el estudio de las creencias y actitudes hacia las variedades del español en el siglo XXI (PRECAVES XXI), los resultados revisan si sigue vigente la existencia de un «mejor español». A continuación, se examina el grado de identificación de las distintas variedades del español por parte de los informantes barceloneses y, finalmente, se ahonda en un conjunto de cuestiones, agrupadas en valoraciones directas (cognitivas y afectivas) e indirectas (rasgos socioculturales de la persona que habla, del país y de la cultura), para observar las actitudes y creencias hacia la variedad chilena. En general, las valoraciones son positivas y, en cuanto a los factores sociales (sexo, edad, nivel de instrucción y L1) y extralingüísticos (voz masculina o femenina) que pueden explicar las diferencias entre grupos, hay que señalar la L1 de los informantes (castellanohablantes iniciales o catalanohablantes iniciales), así como la voz escuchada (voz masculina o voz femenina).es-ES
