Research has highlighted the importance of early development of counting skills as a foundation for later development of formal arithmetic. The purpose of this research was to characterize the main instructional strategies used in the classroom and their relationship to the development of content skills for children between the ages of 3 and 6. The methodology used was the systematic review of the literature from an interpretive paradigm with qualitative methodology. The review allows to identify 4 fundamental criteria in the use of didactic strategies for the development of counting skills: relevance of language, mathematization of the environment, use of games and use of material and technological resources. Finally, the results warn of the need to continue innovating with interesting and challenging didactic strategies, complemented by the creativity and knowledge of the early childhood educator, in order to offer the child integral learning environments.Las investigaciones abordadas advierten la importancia de desarrollar las habilidades del conteo en edades tempranas como base para el desarrollo de la aritmética formal en edades superiores. El objetivo de esta investigación fue caracterizar las principales estrategias didácticas empleadas en el aula y su relación con el desarrollo de las habilidades del conteo para niños y niñas de 3 a 6 años. La metodología empleada fue la revisión sistemática de la literatura desde un paradigma interpretativo de carácter cualitativo. La revisión permite establecer cuatro criterios fundamentales en el uso de estrategias didácticas para el desarrollo de las habilidades del conteo: relevancia del lenguaje, matematización del entorno, uso del juego y uso de recursos materiales y tecnológicos. Finalmente, los resultados advierten la necesidad de continuar innovando mediante estrategias didácticas interesantes y desafiantes que se complementen con la creatividad y el conocimiento del educador/a de párvulos para ofrecer a niños y niñas ambientes de aprendizaje integrales.
