| dc.description | After three years since the start of the pandemic, hundreds of popular soup kitchens and snack areas continue their community action in Uruguay. From a team of the University of the Republic, we have accompanied and systematized different aspects of these community networks that, focused on food, politicize the daily life of different neighborhoods throughout the country. In this article, we present the results of the quantitative survey carried out nationwide in 2022, compared to those of 2020, providing some interpretative keys based on the qualitative fieldwork carried out during this time. Among the findings, we can highlight that despite the decrease in the number of initiatives in these years, they maintain almost the same amount of portions served, with a certain tendency to concentrate on snack areas for children and adolescents. It is mainly women who carry out this daily work from neighborhood and family organizations, in an ambivalence between the overload and the stereotyping of gender roles, and the politicization of food as a problem that becomes public-common. Elements are also pointed out that allow us to understand the relevance of popular soup kitchens and snack areas networks in material and affective sustenance, as well as social legitimation in the face of the changes and challenges that have occurred in different stages of public policy responses. Finally, some reflections are outlined on the potential of these community networks to politicize different dimensions of daily life in neighborhoods, questioning the monopolistic pretension of state decisions and the solutions that exclusively refer to people to the labor and consumption markets. | en-US |
| dc.description | Tras tres años de iniciada la pandemia, cientos de ollas y merenderos populares sostienen su accionar comunitario en Uruguay. Desde un equipo de la Universidad de la República, hemos acompañado y sistematizado diferentes aristas de estas tramas comunitarias que, centradas en el alimento, politizan la vida cotidiana de diferentes barrios en todo el país. En este artículo presentamos los resultados del relevamiento cuantitativo realizado a nivel nacional en 2022 y aportamos algunas claves interpretativas en base al trabajo de campo cualitativo llevado adelante en este tiempo. Entre los hallazgos, se resalta que, a pesar de que el número de iniciativas disminuye frente a las relevadas en 2020, se mantiene la cantidad de porciones servidas, y el esfuerzo pasa a concentrarse en merenderos para niños/as y adolescentes. Son mayoritariamente las mujeres quienes realizan este trabajo cotidianamente desde organizaciones vecinales y familiares, en una ambivalencia entre la sobrecarga y la estereotipia de los roles de género, y la politización de la alimentación como problema que se vuelve público-común. Se señalan también elementos que permiten comprender la relevancia de las redes de ollas y merenderos populares en el sostenimiento material, afectivo y como legitimador social ante los cambios y embates que se han dado en diferentes etapas de respuesta de las políticas públicas. Por último, se esbozan algunas reflexiones sobre la potencia de estos entramados comunitarios para politizar diferentes dimensiones de la vida cotidiana en los barrios, tensionando las visiones centradas en el Estado, y las soluciones que remiten exclusivamente al trabajo asalariado y el consumo individual. | es-ES |
