The purpose of this paper is to analyze the civil liability insurance contract, particularly the one contracted by legal professionals for damages that may be caused to their clients and third parties. This will allow us to elucidate its contours, for which we will focus on its legal definition, the risk as a substantial element of liability insurance, the time limit clauses and a particular analysis of civil liability insurance taken out by legal professionals.El trabajo tiene por objeto realizar un análisis dogmático y comparado del contrato de seguro por responsabilidad civil, particularmente el contraído por profesionales del derecho por los daños que puedan ocasionar tanto a sus clientes como a terceros. Lo anterior permitirá dilucidar concretamente sus contornos, para lo cual nos abocaremos a estudiar su conceptualización legal, el riesgo como elemento sustancial del seguro de responsabilidad, las cláusulas de delimitación temporal y un análisis particular del seguro de responsabilidad civil tomado por profesionales jurídicos.
