In this article appears an alternative approach to the value of the popular habitat. Its production is considered a value in itself, intangible, where the cultural heap of the diverse towns that compose the Popular Habitat is expressed materialized in Architecture of high symbolic content. The arguments of this approach are constructed from sociological and anthropological conceptions that explain the semiotics of this physical expression that is so singular and always present in our Latin American cities.En este artículo se presenta un enfoque alternativo acerca del valor del hábitat popular. Se considera su producción como un valor en sí mismo, intangible, donde se expresa el acervo cultural de los diversos pueblos que componen el Hábitat Popular materializado en Arquitectura de alto contenido simbólico. Se construyen los argumentos de este enfoque a partir de concepciones sociológicas y antropológicas que dilucidan la semiótica de esta expresión física tan singular y siempre presente en nuestras ciudades latinoamericanas.
