Form Teachers, a Key Actor for Students in Pandemic. Case Study in Six Public Secondary Schools in Santiago

dc.descriptionThe pandemic generated by the COVID-19 virus has had a strong impact in schools. A study about the relational environment in six public schools in the Metropolitan Region reported the relevance of the role played by form teachers during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting to the needs of the current crisis context and achieving higher levels of trust with their students. The aim      of this article was to deepen in the characteristics and tasks performed by the role of form teachers,  showing how trust between teachers and students has increased. Through the case study methodology, interviews were conducted with teachers (form and class teachers), students and school leaders. The interviews were conducted in two phases: 2020 and 2021. Our results indicate that form      teachers have assumed four main tasks during this period: i) monitoring and follow-up of connectivity and participation; ii) accompaniment of the formative process and learning; iii) promotion of psycho-emotional well-being; and iv) assistance with socio-economic problems. The higher level of trust reported between students and their form teachers is mainly based on three dimensions of trust: benevolence, predictability and receptiveness.en-US
dc.descriptionLa pandemia por virus SARS-CoV-2 ha tenido fuertes repercusiones sobre los establecimientos escolares. En el marco de un estudio respecto del ámbito relacional en establecimientos públicos de la Región Metropolitana, se pesquisó la relevancia del rol ejercido por los profesores jefes durante este periodo, adaptándose a las necesidades del actual contexto de crisis y logrando mayores niveles de confianza con sus estudiantes. El objetivo del presente artículo es profundizar en las características y labores desempeñadas por el rol de la jefatura de curso, dando cuenta del modo en que la confianza entre profesores y estudiantes ha aumentado. A través de la metodología de estudio de caso se llevó a cabo, en dos fases, 2020 y 2021, entrevistas a profesores (con y sin jefatura de curso), estudiantes y directivos. Se pesquisó que éstos han asumido cuatro labores principales durante este periodo: i) monitoreo y seguimiento a la conectividad y participación; ii) acompañamiento al proceso formativo y los aprendizajes; iii) promoción del bienestar psicoemocional y iv) asistencia frente a problemáticas socioeconómicas. El mayor nivel de confianza reportado entre estudiantes y sus profesores jefes se sustenta principalmente en tres dimensiones de la confianza: benevolencia, previsibilidad y apertura.es-ES
