Given the challenges facing Chilean public education today, a little explored path has been the convergence between heritage education and public history within schools. The School Archives Program of the History Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile has sought to follow this path, developing tools for educational communities to recognize and value their historical heritage. The article presents this innovative public history initiative and its more than ten years of work, focusing on its three main types of strategies: the recovery and organization of school archives; the implementation of pedagogical experiences of school research; and the organization of congresses and meetings between teachers and students. From this, the main achievements of the program and its still pending challenges are discussed, reflecting on its objective of contributing to a genealogical historical conscience and a more critical, responsible and empowered citizenship.Ante los desafíos que hoy enfrenta la educación pública chilena, un camino poco explorado ha sido la convergencia entre educación patrimonial e historia pública al interior de las escuelas. El Programa de Archivos Escolares del Instituto de Historia de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile ha buscado seguir este camino, desarrollando herramientas para que las comunidades educativas reconozcan y valoren su patrimonio histórico. El artículo presenta esta innovadora iniciativa de historia pública y sus más de diez años de trabajo, focalizándose en sus tres principales tipos de estrategias: la recuperación y organización de archivos escolares; la implementación de experiencias pedagógicas de investigación escolar; y, la organización de congresos y encuentros entre docentes y estudiantes. A partir de ello, se discuten los principales logros del programa y sus desafíos aún pendientes, reflexionando sobre su objetivo de aportar a una conciencia histórica genealógica y a una ciudadanía más crítica, responsable y empoderada.
