Se presenta un estudio realizado en un establecimiento de enseñanza media municipal de Puerto Montt, Chile, sobre la percepción del tiempo escolar que tienen docentes y estudiantes respecto a cómo se gestiona la jornada en el centro educativo. Se pone énfasis en la dedicación horaria y en los tiempos libres otorgados. Se utilizó el paradigma cualitativo en base a un estudio de caso. Se realizaron observaciones en el centro educativo y conversaciones con los docentes. Esto se complementó con la aplicación de cuestionarios exploratorios a 12 estudiantes y a 4 profesores jefes de 1º a 4º medio. Algunos resultados arrojaron que la jornada escolar era muy extensa, que los tiempos de descanso eran insuficientes y que no siempre se respetaban. Se reconoce el desafío de buscar otros mecanismos de gestionar el tiempo y utilizarlos de manera más eficiente. Para ello, los participantes brindaron propuestas.   A study is presented which was carried out in a municipally dependent high school in Puerto Montt, Chile, concerning the perception that teachers and students have on how the school day is managed, emphasizing free time granted and its quality. A qualitative paradigm was used, based on a case study. Observations were made about the educational center and there were conversations with the teachers. This was complemented by the application of exploratory questionnaires completed by 12 students and 4 form teachers between 9th and 12th grades. Some results show that the school day was very long, recesses were insufficient and they were not always respected. The challenge of searching for additional time management mechanisms and using time more efficiently is acknowledged. In order to attain this, teachers and students made proposals.
