dc.description	This article presents the results of an exploratory study regarding the experiences of women who have reached the top positions in higher education institutions. In line with these findings, power relationships are circumstantial to those of gender, and differential traits of leadership in feminine hand are acknowledged. The prestige system becomes important as an element inherent to the academic and directing career in higher education institutions where, although the standards are similar for men and women, the latter have more difficulty in reaching high positions. Tensions between public and private life appear to be one of the barriers in a woman’s career due to the higher levels of power in these institutions.	en-US
dc.description	Este artículo presenta los resultados de un estudio de carácter exploratorio respecto de las experiencias de mujeres que han alcanzado las más altas posiciones directivas en instituciones de educación superior. De acuerdo con estos hallazgos, las relaciones de poder son consustanciales a las de género y se reconocen rasgos diferenciadores en la gestión del poder en manos femeninas. El sistema de prestigio adquiere relevancia como elemento constitutivo de la carrera académica y directiva en las instituciones de educación superior, donde, si bien los estándares son similares para hombres y mujeres, estas últimas presentan mayores dificultades para alcanzarlos. Las tensiones entre la vida pública y privada se develan como una de las barreras en la carrera de las mujeres por los más altos niveles de decisión en estas instituciones.	es-ES
