In the current sociohistorical context, characterized by the impact of the digital revolution, the vertiginous pace of time and individualism have effects in society which impact educational institutions directly. New subjectivities, transformations in the access to information and the logic of immediacy march through the educational field. Amidst this scenario, Chile is among the countries with the highest teacher dropout rates. However, research and reflection on this subject has been scarce, which is why it is necessary to rethink the gradual loss of prestige that the teaching profession has suffered and the factors and causes which have led teachers to make this decision.En el contexto hipermoderno actual, caracterizado por el impacto de la revolución digital, la vertiginosidad del tiempo y el individualismo, produce efectos en la sociedad, que repercuten en forma directa en las instituciones educativas. Nuevas son las subjetividades, transformaciones en el acceso a la información y la lógica de la inmediatez atraviesan el campo educativo. En medio de este escenario, Chile está dentro de los países que registran las tasas más altas de abandono docente. Sin embargo, la investigación y reflexión en esta materia ha sido escasa, es por ello que es necesario replantearse el desprestigio paulatino que ha sufrido la profesión docente y los factores y causas que han llevado a los docentes a tomar esta decisión.
