The global teacher attrition crisis has been on the rise, with Chile being among the countries with the highest teacher attrition rates. Despite this, research and reflection on this topic has been limited, so it is crucial to reconsider the gradual decline in the prestige of the teaching profession and examine the reasons that lead teachers to resign. The purpose of this essay is to analyze the factors and consequences of teacher desertion in Chile and how public policies have tried to minimize dropout in educational institutions, given that the loss of a teacher has irreparable consequences in the educational, social, and economic spheres. Teachers are central to the education system, but there is little attention paid to their challenges compared to students. It is crucial to understand how education policies have affected the teaching profession in order to develop strategies that promote their professionalization and autonomy. Este ensayo tiene como objeto analizar los factores y las consecuencias de la deserción docente en Chile y cómo las políticas públicas han tratado de minimizar la deserción en las instituciones educativas, dado que la pérdida de un docente conlleva consecuencias irreparables en los ámbitos educativo, social y económico.
